I found this quote on Jessica's Pinterest board. I nearly started sobbing when I read it. It reminds me of my mother in law. She raised an amazing son. Wayne my husband. I know all the things I love about him she taught him. He is kind, loving and always trys to do what is right. Most of all he is always thinking of what will make me happy. He agrees with me (even when I know he doesnt) He lets me be who I am( a little bit of a mess but passionate) He never uses ugly words to hurt me. (but firm when needed) most of all he thinks my worst feature ( my tiny squinty eyes) are my best feature.

This week has brought lots of change. For that matter this year has brought lots of change. I hate change. The older I get the more I resist it.

My youngest brother Pierce left for his mission in Columbia on Wednesday.

He is the same age as my oldest daughter. Its like losing one of my own. I didnt think I would be as sad as I was. Dont get me wrong , I am happy for him and the growth he will have. But I cant help feel a little heartbroken. You know the feeling when you are standing on the edge of a page as its turning and you dont want to move on, knowing nothing will ever be the same.

With this milestone for Pierce brings milestones for my kids who are the same age. Maybe this is the real reason I am sad. Im sad because this is the begining of the end. The beginning of my kids moving on and leaving me. The beginning of them not needing me. The beginning of their lives.

Tana got her drivers license. Jancy is applying for scholarships for college. Taryn is going to middle school. Jessica has a boyfriend.

We are definetly not in Kansas anymore.

So yesterday began Jess not needing me (photographically speaking) We had a fun photoshoot planned with her new car and puppy. I couldnt help feeling her heart wasnt in it. It could have been the early hour of 6 am or she hated the dress or even she hated her hair.

The Freeway

Last week Jancy (17 yrs) started training at a new dance studio 40 minutes from Queen Creek 4 times a week. I took her there the first week. The studio is in Tempe so we have to take the 202 and 101 to get there. So the 4 times I drove her there I would point out the various exits to take note of. I told her " Just remember right after Dobson the next exit is the 101 so make sure your in the left hand lane before Dobson." Then 2 exits on the 101 and your there.

This week she drove herself. Like most new (and some old) drivers she is scared of the freeway. When she got home last Monday from driving herself she announced "the freeway is not that scary if you know where you are going." Wow profound. In my head I'm thinking ... The freeway is a lot like life. Its not that scary if you know where you are going. Like a plan, like a 6 year plan, like God's plan.

Then I felt this overwhelming sense of gratitude. I know what Gods plan is. As a Latter-Day Saint I believe in the plan of salvation.

We lived in heaven before we were born as Gods spirit children. Because he loved us God had a plan for us to to come to earth and gain a body. He knew we would make mistakes and need a way to repent. Someone to be our redeemer, to redeem us from our sins. He sent his son Jesus to be our Savior. So we can repent through his atonement and keep trying to be like him. Live as he did.
So we come to earth to learn and grow .... To Remember who we are. A child of Diety. When we die we return to him and he will ask "Did you keep my commandments. Did you do the things I asked" Did you help your fellow men" How did you live"

So the plan of salvation provides a way for us to gain a body, learn by experience, show that we will obey his commandments, and return to him stronger and wiser.

When we understand that life on earth has a purpose and is part of Heavenly Father's plan, we can begin to make correct decisions.

Of course this all sound all very simple. But the most important part is listening to what God wants for you. It is usually a very quite voice but in your heart you will know.

I know God loves me. He has a plan for me. Sometimes I hear it loud and clear and other times I have to stop and be very still to hear it.

I know God and his Son Jesus Christ live. I know Jesus came to earth. He was a real man and he suffered for my sins and all mankinds sins in the Garden of Gestmene. He died and was resurrected. Just as you and I will.

I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. He restored the Lords church on the earth. With the keys to the priesthood to act in Gods name.

I know we are guided by a prophet today. Thomas S. Monson. His guidance and counsel keeps us safe from the evils and pitfall that destroy our families and lives. The evils that prevent us from living how of Savior did.

I know the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. Its teachings bring me peace and guide me to do the Lords will.

This Easter weekend my family and I experienced one of the best examples of the Atonement of our Savior. We saw in action what turning our lives over to the Savior can do if we let him in and change our hearts and life.

We had the opportunity to visit Boggs in Vista, Ca. at Greenoaks Ranch a retreat center. He was lucky enough to be accepted for Rehabilitation there. Many times of the 20 years he has been addicted to drugs and alcohol I have wondered if this would be the day we would find him dead. Most certainly there have been many painful events because of his addiction. The most painful part was watching him continue to choose the path and not be able to see the path to recovery so close to him.

This weekend the difference was he has opened up his heart to the possibility that he to deserves peace and happiness no matter the horrors of his former self. He is so into the Bible I am ashamed to say he knows more than me. He shared his favorite scripture to date with us that keeps him going when he feels the despair. it is Philippians 3:12-21 "but this thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus"

I am so grateful to all the staff, pastors and others around him who have given him the will, and tools to start his recovery. I feel gratitude to the owners of this ranch worth millions in a posh part of San Diego that have resisted developement and lease it to the recovery community.

When we arrived he could not wait to show us around and meet all his new found friends. He showed us the amazing facility. There was a little stream and pond running through the property and ancient oaks shading the stream. There were trail all around leading up the hillside . An animal center with baby goats , ewes, lhamas, bobcat( the girls fave) and snakes and duck . A giant ball field, amphitheater, and pool. He was so proud of the kitchen were he has been working the past few months as well as the improvement to the ranch he has worked on . ( the brigde.)

We were able to spend the day at the beach with him and do a little shopping for much needed items.

Most everyone there is from SD County and have visitors weekly. So he has been a little lonely and wanting to share his change with thoses he loves , his family. If you want to write him and share your words of love and encouragement ,

My girls love to watch project runway. I am pretty sure Bravo got the idea from our home videos of the girls making up outfits out of the dress up clothes.

I had borrowed this dress form from a friend for a boutique and Taryn made this masterpiece out of dressup fabric. Its not to bad. She was quite proud as was I. (love the socks.)

Happy Birthday Jancy

Yesterday was my baby's birthday. I cant believe she is 15. I remember thinking I am probaly going to have a boy. I wont be that lucky to get 2 girls in row. Turns out I am. (4 in a row)

Jancy was the cutest baby. Super smart, she was so smart she would bring me the baby food jar out of the diaper bag and say "Eat Dinner" She even walked earlier at 8 months.
One time I was singing her to sleep and she said "no song" I couldnt tell if she didnt want to go to sleep or if my voice is that bad.

In honor of Hsm 3 we all dressed up like one of the characters.. If you cant tell I am Gabreilla and Wayne was Troy. You know your old when one of the trunk or treaters wanted to know if Wayne was Troys dad. To funny. Jess was a wildcat fan. Jancy was sharpey at the club and Taryn a ehs cheerleader and Tana was a Glammed up Sharpey. Too fun. Does this mean I still have to do Halloween.?

Last weekend the girls made swim regionals and they both qualified for state. It has been a fun season . Jancy has almost caught up to Jess. and Jess pr'd that means personal record. we get to spend next saturday at asu pool.. we are so proud of them.

pumkin carving extravaganza!!

I used to go all out for Holidays. I would decorate boutique style. I think I did to much too soon. But I still have maintained the carving pumpkins traditions.

I feel a little guilty, I dont think Taryn has ever been to a pumpkin patch. Some of my best photos are of my girls at the Pumpkin Patch in Young. Yes I drove 2.5 hours for a photo opp with 3 young girls under 6. Another time Chan I drove to Wilcox from here. Needless to say I like the idea of picking my pumpkin from the actual farm even though they ship most of them in .

So Saturday night I asked Taryn if she wanted to pick out her own pumpkin at Frys. She said Nah she would rather stay in the car with Wayne. She doesnt know what she is missing.

However it turns out Taryn is not the only one deprived of Halloween festivities. When I invited one of our dear friend over for the festivities she replied with " I dont think I have ever carved a pumpkin"

On the other side of the spectrum is our other dear friend who turns out to be a plethora of knowlegde when it comes to Pumpkin carving. Did you know that if you grease the inside with vaseline it stays longer(doesnt mold to a mess on your porch) I for one like o wait for that then kick them in to the flower bed as mulch. you know dust to dust. If your interested he is writing a pumpkin carving pamplet for next year. So here are the masterpieces and yes that is Snow White, Little Mermaid and the disney castle as well as a Clone warrior.

As with any party at my house it turned into a singing and dance party. Oh ya

Wheres Wendy?

Last Saturday I got a call from Colby telling me Wendy's appendix burst and was having emergency surgery. You know its an emergency when Wendy doesnt post for more than 3 days.

In true oldest sister fashion I raced up to flagstaff to "save" her. However in true arnett irrationalism I failed to check the weather. We arrived in my hybrid (translation no guts) prius on Sunday morning just as the storm of the decade started. I had not planned on staying the night just a quick visit. With out a change of clothes or more importantly a toothbrush we stayed the night. Me , Heidi and my mom. Colby's mom already was there. The next morning we woke up to 4 feet of snow and an angry city worker. Flagstaff penal code 11123 no parking on street when snow storm in progress , it impeads the snow plows. This kind city worker informed us we would have to dig out my car and move it. He didnt care how just do it. Many of you may not know but Wendy is also moving this week to her new monster beautiful house. She is to modest to brag. Consequently the snow shovel was at the new house not the condo. So Heidi and I had to improvise.

We started out with a storage bucket to remove the snow. Finally a neighbor took pity on us and loaned us his snow shovel and watched us in our inexperience try to shovel the packed snow. It was quite the site. I would have more pictures but alas I was digging.
After all that hard work me and Heidi decided to take a dive into the snow. It was kind of fun.

Anyhow I how I hope Wendy gets better, move into her new house and starts posting. This is alot of pressure to take her place in the blogesphere.

Utah

Christmas Day we left for Utah for Meghan's Wedding. Wayne and I got to see how it is really done.(We are sorely underprepared) Check out the photos on my business blog. Stunning. That is the way it should be done. It was beautiful. My girls got to sweat it out at dinner wondering which fork to use during the formal sit down dinner. Their main concern was they wanted to know where the ranch was. They have not been converted to the pleasures of raspberry vinaigrette. I guess we eat our salmon with ranch. Two tables over Kody's 4 year old niece was able to score chicken nuggets and ketchup. My girls were about to steal her plate. Their palate hasnt matured yet. However I enjoyed the dinner. Salmon , mango chutney with just the right amount of heat accompanied by chicken and some lovely asparagus. The dessert was a silky smooth creme brulee'. ahh perfection.

We had decided to mix business with pleasure. We promised the girls we would take them snowboarding the day after the wedding. But the morning we were to go there was a snow storm.

Since we are desert rats we decided we were not prepared clothing wise or mentally and we didn't want to drop a load of cash for the 5 minutes they would be able to stand the bitter cold.

I never thought of a ski mask as a good winter accessory , apparently they do serve a purpose other than knocking off the local mini mart.

So we ended up enjoying temple square

and going to park city to celebrity sight see. We didnt see Hillary Duff or Miley Cirus but we did find Lamb Canyon.

We ended the day playing in the snow in Salt Lake.

That pretty much did us in. Back to the hotel to soak in the Hot Tub with a beautiful view of temple square all lit up and watched Gilmore girls on the tv in the sauna room. It doesnt get much better than that. Obviously Wayne stayed in the room to read. He doesnt do hot tubs. It is a hard rule he has. Something about all that dead skin floating around. Snuggled in the hotel beds giggling and watching disney a.k.a. High School Musical 2 the rest of the night
My only regret it we didnt get to go down to Orem to hang out with my extended family. But my kids enjoyed the undivided attention. It has been a very busy holiday season. They have been very patient with my neglect for clphoto inc.

Maybe we can do a spring break ski trip? Maybe it will be warmer.

Wayne would be disappointed if I didnt mention that we hit a deer on the way home. But due to his superior driving ability we didnt get a scratch on the car and bambi got up and ran up the hill. After that we saw another 13-17 deer. If you talk to Wayne he will say it was 20-40. He really not an imbellisher thats my side of the family. It must have rubbed off on him with all those Arnetts around in utah: )

In my spare time ( between editing the 1000 plus images and taking another 500 photos a week ) I have decided (not really) to get my Young Women Medalion. This week was young women in excellence. this usually means me helping the girls finish up those lingering 10 hour projects so they (translation their mom) dont look lame in front of their leaders. so Jancy and Jess(Tana did help paint she had another project for another post) decided to redo Jackies room. It was quite fun. But as you know I have no shortage of ideas just the time and sometimes the motivation to finish anything. so the pressure was nice. here are some of the highlights.

Jessica spent alot of time trying to look like she was helping. Jancy did 2/3 of the work. She learned to install an anchor and use a power tool. Very satisifying. I think these should be manditory skills for a womans happiness. all in all i think this will definitely make them better wifes and mothers.

Thanks to Wendy who refinished some old closet doors we found in Flagstaff junk shop. Funky chair from another Junk shop in flag. Oh yeah the cork board flooring from salvation army in flag as well. They turned out to be the perfect focal points. I think it is easier to spend when your out of town no? The vintage locker, gym sock included was found at Heidi's favorite thrift store in Cooligde. The frame also from Heidi. I think the chest is Chan's(you can have it back when your settled) and if you see anythink else that is yours here considered yourself thanked. The scrapbook paper of course from the family scrapbook studio. Which as it stands the orginal inspiration point. Good job girls. Moral of the story God dont make no junk.

The 3 P's

I must admit I am quite fascinated with disasters. I think there is a word for this. When the tsunami hit India I surfed the net for pictures and video. Hurricane Katrina I found myself wanting to go see and document the mess. Now with the fires of Southern California I find myself again drawn. I think my social studies teacher in high school called it Morbid curiosity. During my quest for coverage of the fires I was listening to Denis Praguer (one of the wisest people on the planet) he said when people are confronted with fire they save three things People, Pets, and Pictures. Pictures hold our memories and in the end we are our memories.
As I think about this I would definitely grab my hard drive and mental note I need to get my film scanned. So I asked Wayne which pictures would he save. He said he would back out the cars. I'm pretty sure he didn't understand the question. At least I hope he didn't. So Which pictures would you save?

Installment 2

Well before I can move on to installment 2: I forgot to mention the most unlikely job I have held was ambulance attendant. Yes thats right I worked for southwest ambulance. It was quite a sight seeing me (all 105 lb and much much younger) lift a gurney with a 200lb plus nursing home resident who desperately need to be transported to a hospital for various testing or treatment. At times we did get to use our siren and I was designated map person. This was me "ok turn right wait no turn left , I think we better back up this road dead ends" This was how our emergency went down. I think I got to use the ambu bag once. Thats where you squeeze the bag of air to keep a person alive. crazy huh. I did however get to meet some nurses who on occasion would travel with us in case we had to push meds. This is when I thought I would have liked to be a nurse.
I did not become a nurse but I did get hired at the emergency room as a tech. Tech is a big word for speciman emptier or carrier and vitals taker. Also my responsibilities included applying pressure to "pumpers" . This is a wound that wont stop bleeding. I got to apply pressure until the doc could properly suture. Oh yeah did I mention I worked nights. The freaks really do come out at night. When I would get home at 7:00 am Wayne would often tell me you smell like beer and blood. I wonder why?
Next place I have lived. that will be long I may sum up.
Enough about me. Did I mention that Jessica went to state finals for swimming. Her relay team pr and took 4 seconds off their best time. I am so proud. Not only does she do aerobic activity but she does it oxygen deprived. amazing!!

Installment 1:

My first job--Jungle Juice not to be confused with Jamba Juice . It was a cute little shaved ice place across the street from the high school in the elmer's parking lot. Lot of face time with the cool croud.

My first real job on my own- grounds crew at byu. I didnt know then that I would love gardening and plants. However I did love the smell of wet dirt then and still do. (I need candy's book on people who crave dirt, I will save that for weird things about me) The worst part was shoveling snow in pink ropers. stupid. they did not keep my feet well insulated. I hated being cold then and still do. Did I mention shoveling snow on the marriot center steps at 3:00 am while it was snowing. Yes I do believe I have the best worst job.

A job I would love- I already do. Photographer. the next best job grounds crew at the temple. in a temperate climate.

This summer I attended a reception for one of my former laurels who happened to marry Richard G. Scott nephew. Impressive I know. However this is not the best part. I went to this soree' with a really close friend of mine. So we are going through the culturally aproved reception line. Which is always painful for me when I introduce myself .
Me:" Hi I am Chea"
Reception line person: What Chee, Shea ,...
Me:"Never mind." So as to avoid this all to fun repretoire I simply say
Me:Nice to meet you. I wont even trouble you with my name it is to hard to pronounce.
Former sister scott:( sister to richard) says "try me. "
Me: It's Chea.
Former Sis Scott: "Oh" and she looks at my dear friend (former model) "why did you choose that name. "
She thought my friend was my mother.

Former Sister Scott: "Oh I just thought because your so tall..."

I dont think there is any recovering from this for The former Sister Scott. However I loved every minute of it and have relished in it since. I never thought the time would come that being 5" 1 3/4 versus being 5"9 would be something I prefered. So for all of you out there over 5 1 3/4 you are officially older than me. You know your so much taller. Its gospel. Its from a G.A. 's sister.

When I was growing up the word hospital was a foreign word an place to me. I grew up in a family of eleven, there were plenty of broken bones, sickness, and ailments of sorts, but my father always had a remedy for it. And somehow all eleven of us have made it out healthy an well, I would like to think it was because of the love and care my father gave. He was our life saver, he was all we needed to get through any trial or pain. Dad seemed to have all the answers that no doctor or teacher would ever have. My dad has always been great to me and my family, unconditionally loving every one of his children, it is only now that his health is being threatened that I am coming to appreciate the magnitude of this love, it infectiously makes me want to love harder and spend more time with my father.

Dad always went to bat for me. Any issue I was having in school, with friends, or my brothers, my dad was there to protect me. Not only did he keep me under his wing, my dad believed in me. There was nothing in my fathers eyes that I couldn’t accomplish. All growing up I dreamt of being a dancer. We never had enough money to send me to a studio for proper dance training, but dad made it possible for me to take one or two novice dance classes once a week. Just last year I started running track for the first time in my life. My dad was at every meet, he bought me my first track spikes, and would spend hours talking over strategy’s, an encouraging me to not give up. By all means I was not great in either dance or track years ago, but because of my dads endearing love an belief in me I now am on both the varsity track team and varsity dance line. Dad put his needs and struggles aside to help me over come my weaknesses. About two years ago I went through a miserable time, I guess it was a typical case of high school blues, but somehow I was unable to shake my un happiness out of my system. I only got worse and eventually fell into depression. My parents were confused on what to do with my condition, nonetheless they let my sister take me in to her home to see if it would better my circumstances. My dad, loving let go of me, knowing that it would be painful to lose his last daughter, but all along he kept my best interests in mind. He is the most giving man I know.

Within the past month my fathers health has gone down hill. For two years now dad has been a diabetic, but it is only now that he is being taken down by this disease. I have been in and out of the hospital within this past year more than I have ever in my lifetime. His at-home remedies will not cure his serious condition. To me my dad has been invincible up into this point. It never occurred to me that despite his worsening medical condition and old age, that my dads life was being threatened. Its like growing up in poverty but never realizing that your poor, I have been oblivious. It has been hard to come to terms with the fact that my heroic father is now fighting off various illnesses. It is hard to see him weak.

Though my dad is not as physically strong anymore, I have gained strength through watching him. Now that my dad cannot be there for me the same way he was for me in my child hood, I somehow feel it an obligation to now be my dads hero. I want to save my dad the same way he always rescued me. He truly has left an impression on my heart, and taught me how to love unconditionally. It is natural instinct for me to want to relieve my dad of his pains and reach out to help him. My only hope is that I can be such a caring and nurturing parent to my children as my dad was to me. In a sense I want to carry on the tradition.

My heart has grown immense amounts this past year. It has been traumatic to watch my dads health suffer, but in the long run he is only making me want to be a better daughter. I am so glad for my blissful child hood and adolescence, my dads weaknesses are now making me stronger and causing me to hold on tighter to my family. More than anything I want to be a hero to my dad, it is now my turn to lift him up.

Happy Birthday to my mom. The prettiest lady I know. As pretty as she is on the outside, she is even more beautiful and lovely on the inside. She has raised 11 children with love , kindness, and enduring faith which she has passed on to her children. We didnt know you then but we would have loved to be your friend. We got something more precious, we are privaledged to be your children. You taught us to love the gospel with unwavering faith. You taught us how to work hard and not complain. You have taught us to love unconditionally. Even in the most trying conditions your attitude of kindness, love, and happiness never ceases to amaze and teach me. I can only hope I grow older with such grace and beauty. I love you mom.

Funk

I am an early riser. I cant help it. It gets dark and I am done. So this naturally means I get up early since I went to bed early. However we went to a late movie last night ( Bourne Ultimatum )by the way awesome. So this means I got up late. 9:00 am. For whatever reason it really threw me off my groove. I was grouchy and disagreeable. I know most of you are shocked because I am usually so agreeable. When I am like this Wayne takes it as a personal challenge to bring back from the dark side. This entails annoying me. Its like an itch , he just cant resist. So this morning my case of the grouchies was unusally stubborn the normal teasing was not working so he had to bring out his ace. " Lets go shopping." I dont like shopping that much unless it is purposeful but Jack and Jess (the other girls had plans)were in and that would have meant I was left alone with my funk. Which you know is only fun if you have an audience. So I had to go along. He is a smart man.
He is such a smart man he fed us first. While we were waiting for our food we decide to write down 2 things we like starting with A and finishing with Z .

How to save a life.

Jessica and Nick (our neighbor) have been taking a lifeguard training class. It has been quite informative for me. Did you know its a federal law that only a 16 year old is qualified to push the button at the water park. A FEDERAL LAW. Wow that serious business. I guess Jess will be qualified in almost 6 months for this most serious task. I also learned that as a lifeguard when you are "saving a life" or a drowning victim you can ask him for a little help. For example Jessica was practicing bringing in the drowning victim (Nick). He is really heavy all 140 lbs and she asked him "Can you just kick? This is really hard." So I am thinking to my self" Can you do that?" "Maybe there are stages of drowning like in princess bride you know Mostly Dead. Apparently Jess is only planning on saving the Mostly drowning victim as opposed to the All Drowning victim. Anyways she is still ahead of her dear old mom who when took the same class didn't make it through the treading water with the 10lb brick. I think it went something like this. Hold this brick and tread water for 5 min. I made it 30 seconds. then I went under and all that was left was a mostly drowning victim.

Taryn finally got baptized yesterday. It turned out very nice. We had a full house. She has been waiting for this day for a really long time. She said she finally feels 8 now. She had the biggest grin all day. The dress turned out so cute. I have to show it off. Thanks everyone for your support.
As I edit this I am pretty spent I cant think of any witty to say. Wayne calls it the day after syndrome when I go go go and then crash. Im not sure what I did except try to make a blanket , hand made invites, and a little book which will probaly fall apart. I didnt even have to talk and I didnt serve refreshments. I think I am getting old.

obsessed

I am pretty sure I am crazy. Plenty of evidence in my life. Case in point. Taryn is getting baptized saturday. So I have been obsessed with making the perfect invatation. (as well as the perfect white dress. krinkle linen layered skirt with aqua ribbon and a peekaboo ruffle with tiny blue polka dots. moms working on it as we speak) Never mind that my friend at beautifuldayinvatation.com already made a perfect one.I did however do a take on the one she designed for Chad. I hope she is flattered not offended. Imatation is the highest form of flattery right?But I cant resist. I love the paper. ah the papers. the ribbon. the little dodads. And the only time I can allow myself to obsess for 4 days about one invite is an occasions like this. I think I love the creative process. Oh and ignoring the laundry that still smells like the ocean, which now is not as charming. It has aged to the fishy smell no longer the Kramer Beach perfume that it once was.

6 days

We just returned from 6 days in Encinitas a funky beach town north of San Diego. Its so funky it is home to those guys in the orange robes at the airport(swamis?). We stayed at a motel not to be confused with a hotel. The moonlight beach motel to be exact. It is amazing what you will put up with to be close to the beach. Some of the pros of our motel :
1. Closer to the beach than most of the parking spots available.
2.There were two rooms and 3 double beds. No one had to sleep on the air mattress.
3.Full size fridge and stocked kitchen with pots,pans and dishes.
4.Boogie boards and one surf board we could borrow.
5.The price was right.
The Cons:
1. The shower spout shot water all over the floor making its way to the hall carpet.
2.To be nice Channy said our room smelled like a hamster.
3.The ac unit in the front of the room didnt work.
4. The train

Needless to say we spent most of our time at the beach.

Day 1: booked it to the beach

Day 2: was Taryn's Birthday. She wondered what her sisters got her. Surprise Hannah Montana wig. It was the bomb.

Day 3: More beach and Birthday photos for Taryn. She was not as thrilled as I.

Day 4: Photo session with Tana and Jancy at a great shop in encinitas called Grounded.(see the photographyblog for the photos) I have since decided I need a big metal building with a bank of windows for a studio. This should be do-able right Wayne? Channy and her Kids arrived about 1:00 pm for more beach. Danny and Frances came in at 6:00pm

I had wanted to go to La Jolla, but Wayne wanted to do it at our new "hometown" beach. If you know me you know that I am not a control freak. As George Castanza says "Its not a lie Jerry if you really believe it" So we did it in encincitas
Day 5: We celebrated the Fourth at you guessed it "the Beach" We arrived about 10:00 to stake out a good spot. Spent most of the day there. We heard they closed the town of Oceanside to anymore cars so we decided the fireworks show would have to be watching the sun set. It was beautiful.

Day 6: Went on trek the Mormon Battalion took to San Diego. Ok we didnt trek but we did watch the Mormon battalion presentation in Old Town San Diego. It wasnt as an in depth expereince as our good friends had reinacting the sweetwater crossing in Wyoming. But we felt it was a start as my two older daughters said "Im sure glad we were'nt pioneers" Which I saw as a teaching moment said "You mean you are so grateful for all the sacrafices they made for our faith." They love my teaching moments.

On a serious note I didnt realize what major contribution the battalion really made to California.
The wagon trail most of the gold rushers used, the first newspaper in San Fransico, the first brick building in san diego and some of the first fresh water wells. This is all I can remember right now. I hope it is enough to pass the test.

Summer, Sleeping in, and Swimming

So summer is supposed to be all about sleeping in and swimming. Well we have been doing alot of the later. Not much sleeping in. The girls are on a swim team and diving team in mesa. Here is the kicker it is at 5:30 in the morning. This means we have to get up at 4:50am to roll out to mesa a 1/2 hour away. My mom and Wayne (my kids best defense team against the nazi mom) think I am crazy for "making" them do this. I have a wise aunt who says "Hard is good...it will build your character. I once knew someone who died from doing that." Aunt Candy
Well they have not died and surpisingly they often wake me up to go. There is nothing like getting up and doing something productive. You know how I feel about idleness. (got that from mom)
So here is my christmas in July letter.

Jessica has got 2 1st place in backstroke and freestyle. We call her 2nd place in backstroke 1st because it was against a boy team.

Jancy has got a couple 1st place in dive and 2nd and 1st in swim. They all run together all I know is I am still scared of the high dive.

Tana has a beautiful front tuck flip dive (is that the name) I am still learning the lingo. She is very inspiring with her perserverance. Some things take a lot of practice. She has really improved

Taryn has learned a lot of new dives as well for her young age. She has only slapped twice off the boards. Once of the 3meter. She only cried for 5 minutes loudly. Management thought something horrible happened. She is the youngest for a reason. She seems to have fun and like it.

Yesterday at church I had an epiphany. A good place to have one wouldn’t you think. Anyhow this last year and a half I have been the primary ctr 5 teacher. It has been the hardest calling I have ever had. I was plucked from young women’s were I was privileged to teach insightful lessons and connect with the girls. Which I loved.. I am pretty sure I went through the grieving steps. Anger , denial , bargaining , and whatever else comes with it . So my first week in primary I try to give an insightful and spiritual lesson to 10 of the hardest 4 and 5 years old children in the ward. It didn’t go well. One of my students (the one in the window sill) went home and said teacher cried. I told him it was a good cry. You know the spirit touched me crying. I was lying of course. The next week I had a new game plan I would stand on my head and teach the lesson. I had their attention but I don’t think anything was taught. As the year progressed I relearned how to teach little children. (Mine are all over the age of 5) I would tell stories as if they were from a video game. You know Ammon used a sword not a lightsaver. Play games and use big eyes when talking. This is all obvious stuff. But my heart was still with my girls in Young Women’s. I finally have my 3 girls in there and I get released.

Any how yesterday in primary as I was holding 2 of the 10 kids on my lap while trying to block the way with my foot for the other 3 escape artists of the class , we were singing I know my redeemer lives, and it was the sweetest thing. I thought to my self while struggling to keep my class in there seats and quiet there was a certain beauty, I dare say true religion about the moment. This is what is about , feeling the true spirit in its simplest form from a song with the innocence of the children . Its not about my great gospel insights or any other young women teacher. As I look back on my experiences as a youth I remember the songs not the lessons. So as my girls are growing up and going through the cinematic moments in young women’s I want them to remember it is not that complicated . The savior loves us and we should live to feel his love. Pure and Simple.

Satellite Elk

Wayne here.... and filling in for my everloving wife. I hope each of you will forgive her for having me intrude on you personal, time consuming, word conveying, time of blogging space. Here we go....
Chea recently left me (and not for what most you think she should leave me for:) to go visit Wendy in the beautiful mountains of Flagstaff. Anyway, after work I found myself in an empty house with no girls (girls camp), no wife, and of-course no meal. The later being the only constant:) I then began to search for a manly video to help pass the time while I soaked up the last portion of my gravy coated chicken from El Pollo Fatto. I soon realized that I've seen every video twenty times and the evening entertainment was turning rather bleak.

But then it happened! Over in the corner of my bedroom, in the midst of my overused DVD's of Barney Fife, I found a gift from a full time hunter/brother-in-law. It was an unwrapped DVD of his killings.... I mean hunting expeditons. Mind you, I've never really been a man... I just try to pretend and play the part. But as this story goes.... I spent the next hour watching, learning, and realizing how skilled some of our relatives our. Do each of you realize that the satellite elk are not the ones your supposed to blast? Satellite elk way are too small! NO, YOU MUST SLOWING AND QUIETLY WORK YOUR WAY PAST THEM. It is then and there (if you are lucky) that you will find bull elk that are bigger than houses. If you are so skilled and your hunting trip is successful.... then you too will have these magnificent creatures mounted and growing out of your walls. This should be everyone's goal.
I share this with you not only to bore you, but to tease and help you realize that we have a pretty good guy up North, who is part of a very special family. I hope he realizes that I not only write this to make him laugh, but to also thank him for everything they do for family. Privately and Publicly. Smile my friends.... life is too short not to laugh, give, and in my case... watch a video that makes me feel like Mr. Burns (The Simpsons) without his shirt on. Thanks for pretending to care. Taryn finally lost her front tooth last sunday and her other front tooth wednesday. She is almost 8. So naturally she had some questions for me. Is the tooth fairy a man? How come Abbi got 5 dollars? Is there more than one tooth fairy? Does the tooth fairy come when you are older? Like all good mothers I told her to ask her Dad.

The more important thing is I had a reason for a photo shoot. Toothless grins are the best.

New Arrivals

Last monday I met my new niece Paige Catalina Murphy. Catalina for the beautiful mountain range in Tucson. She is beautiful.
Tommorow I expect another new arrival. Chan is moving to Queen Creek while Lee trains. I am so excited. But I will miss the quirky oddball places she has lived which have given me something interesting to shoot. So its fairwell to New Mexico and my Georgia O'Keaffe moments. For those of you who are artilliterate she is a famous artist who resided in New Mexico.
The only thing that would make this richer is Wendy moving home. I guess I will have to explore Flagstaff for quicky places to shoot. It shouldnt be hard as it is granola town. Not that its a bad thing?

The last arrival I expect is the arrival of my 3 girls home from girls camp or as we refer to it drama camp. I cant wait for the report. I am sure I will have great material to share.

In the beginning...

Here it goes. I have failed at writing in words the events of my life and my childrens life since Wayne and I started our signifigant relationship some 16 years ago. It was as if I documented it, it would some how make it like all the other angst that is in my teenage journal and end this fairy tale I am in. (it is true, I live a charmed life) The perfect husband , beautiful children, nice home, great neighbors, family nearby the list goes on. My theme song is I must have born a Lucky guy So I have documented through pictures instead of words. Way better proof in my opinion. So once again here goes. I will try not to give TMI. I cant garuantee anything though.
